Who sang it first?

Currently, when one thinks of a song cover, an aspiring artist with an acoustic guitar comes to mind, thanks to YouTube. But what many do not know is that some of the most famous musical artists sing covers. One can think of it as simply borrowing, but not giving the sing back of course, but giving the original artist homage- at least, in most cases. It always sparks controversy, when the artist covering the song, sings it much better than its original artist. For example, Lauryn Hill’s famous record, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” was originally sang by Frankie Valli in 1967. However, nowadays when that track is brought up, most will recognize Hill as the singer, rather than Valli. Here is a list of other songs you didn’t know we’re covers.

1. Hound Dog by Big Mama Thornton (1953) covered by Elvis Presley in 1956.

2. “I Want To Be Loved” by Muddy Waters (1955) covered by The Rolling Stones in 1963.

3. “Valerie” by The Zutons (2006) covered by Amy Winehouse in 2007.

4. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli (1967) covered by Lauryn Hill in 1998.

5. “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton (1974) covered by Whitney Houston in 1992.
