Choice Video: Alvvays – “Next of Kin”

“Pleasant” is a glossy adjective which seems to be heavily applied to Alvvays in recent rumblings surrounding the band’s self-titled debut album, and it’s wonderfully fitting.  The Toronto-based quintet seem to effortlessly breathe the smirkish melancholia of the quarter-life existential crisis, each song hinting at the renewed sense of self one often finds at the end of that long and difficult road.  The Connor Gilhooly-directed clip for “Next of Kin” playfully captures that dimension of Alvvays with a subtle wash of abstraction.
