In light of recent events (i.e. the unsettling censorship which temporarily plagued “The Interview”), one should view something like a Marilyn Manson video as a small act of protest. Thankfully, Manson just released a new one – the visually arresting clip for “Deep Six,” directed by Bart Hess.
“Deep Six” is taken from Manson’s forthcoming album The Pale Emperor, slated for release on January 20th. Speaking about the album (and his recent role on “Sons of Anarchy”) with Loudwire, Manson attributed the title’s inspiration to his friend Johnny Depp. “[The title] came from a book that I was given in 2000 by [Johnny] Depp,” he said. “We have each other’s back as in we have the same tattoo on our back. It covers our entire back. [The book] was about Heliogabalus, which may be a little esoteric for our listeners. He was the emperor of Rome before Caligula. He was the first one to deny God and that’s a big deal.” Watch the video for “Deep Six” below.
