Hear Lorde’s Beautiful Rendition of the Bright Eyes Track “Ladder Song”

When the world learned that Lorde had been enlisted to personally curate the soundtrack to “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” the buzz started to reach feverish heights (a buzz almost entirely separate from the film’s inherent buzz, it seems).  Over the past few weeks, we’ve been treated with several glimpses at the Lorde-curated collection – including her new single “Yellow Flicker Beat,” the Kanye West rework of that single entitled “Flicker,” and the Major Lazer/Ariana Grande collaboration “All My Love” (which was previously listed on the tracklist as the rather mysterious “Track 5”).

Now, merely six months after their published mutual admiration in The New York Times, we have the chance to hear Lorde’s cover of the Bright Eyes (Conor Oberst) track “Ladder Song,” which originally appeared on the stellar 2012 Bright Eyes album The People’s Key.  Lorde does exactly what you would hope with her take on the Oberst standard, avoiding unnecessary embellishments and taking the minimalistic route – a route we can rather safely assume pleases Oberst.  Stream Lorde’s rendition of “Ladder Song” HERE, and scope the updated Mockingjay tracklist and/or revisit the video for Lorde’s “Yellow Flicker Beat” below.  The soundtrack lands on iTunes November 17th.
