For Polish artist Karolina Zglobicka, abstract painting is very much a language of layering. Her paintings, which are mostly made using acrylic and gesso, involve adding elements only to peel them away again to get to the deeper, truer emotion. Zglobicka says of her work in her artist statement: “Constant process of removing, and adding to the composition erratically, allows me to freely explore the contradictions of materiality and colour within painting along with the balance between meaning and explanation, vision and gesture, word and unspoken thought.”
