Sza has recently been on our radar since her recent collaborations with Wale and Chance The Rapper. Although she has been pursuing music for a few years now, she has recently emerged into her potential superstardom. With a recent appearance at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Tex. to showcase her latest EP Z, which is a part of her trilogy project (one of her first projects was named S, for the spelling of her stage name).
Sza, formerly known as Solano Rowe, signed to Top Dawg Entertainment back in 2013, a label linked to artists like Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and Jhene Aiko- a perfect fit for Sza. Her style of R&B is minimal, yet soulful with a sprinkle of hip hop influence. Her artistry has been shaped by an array of performers, including, Billie Holiday and Wu-Tang Clan. She has an ability to transform her voice into each influence. With a little more hip hop tine in “Child’s Play,” featuring Chance, and channeling the soulfulness of Musiq Soulchild with her recent collaboration with Wake for his record, “Need To Know.”
Sza is at the brink of mainstream popularity, but it hasn’t changed her the authenticity of her style. She is set to release her album, A, to complete the trilogy in late 2015.
