Dan Flavin was an American minimalist artist who began his career as a painter, but discarded that medium completely when he discovered fluorescent lights. From that discovery on the neon lights influenced him to experiment with the way that the the light influenced the space around it. Working in tandem with the architecture the light would transform a space into something more ethereal. And although Flavin passed away in 1966, his work still endures and enchants visitors the world over.
